The Greatest Showman

“The noblest art is that of making others happy” (P.T. Barnum). The Greatest Showman was released on December 8, 2017. The film stars Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, Zac Efron as Philip Carlisle, Zendaya as Anne Wheeler. The film begins with a young P.T. Barnum daydreaming about performing in a circus before he’s brought back to reality. He is the son of a tailor and, while on a job one day, he meets a young girl named Charity who he makes laugh. However, the father of the young girl looks down on Barnum and slaps him for liking his daughter. Even though Charity’s father tries to keep them apart, they end up falling in love, getting married, and having kids. Sadly, Barnum isn’t successful at first and even loses his job. Charity is happy with their life, but Barnum wants more for his family. He takes out a loan at the bank and buys a building in which he calls Barnum’s American Museum. Initially, sales are slow. But then, on the suggestion of his children to showcase something “alive”, Barnum searches for “freaks” to serve as performers for his museum. This causes a major boom in business and it is also how Barnum’s circus comes together. The movie is filled with amazing songs and performances. The characters experience many ups and downs, but everything ends up coming together in the end for all of the characters. Overall, I would rate this film 10 out of 10 top hats.
