Hard Work and Determination Pay Off!

The Lady Panthers’ Volleyball team started this week off with a win. On Tuesday, September 16th, the girls’ traveled to Fannett- Metal, where they swept the Lady Tigers in three games. The final scores were 25-16, 25-12, and 25-15. For Northern Bedford, Emma Eckenroad had thirteen kills, Lana Gochnour had twenty digs and ten service points, Savannah Devine had twenty digs, and Krista Burket had nineteen digs, seventeen service points, and fifteen assists. The players and coaches were very pleased with their performance for the night. Coach Nicky Robison stated “We played a very well-rounded game tonight.  We served and passed better tonight than we did at the tournament this past weekend.  I was pleased with our net play tonight and the aggressiveness from our hitters. Our setter did a good job of getting everyone involved and our hitters made good decisions with the ball.” The Lady Panthers’ next game was hosted at home against Chestnut Ridge on Thursday, September 18th. This was a very big and exciting game for the NBC Volleyball team. Chestnut Ridge and Northern Bedford were the only two teams with undefeated records in the Sideling Hill League. The Lady Panthers started off with winning the first match 27-25. Chestnut Ridge came back and won match two and three, with scores of 25-22 and 25-9. After the tough loss in the third match, NBC came back and won the fourth match, 25-22. With all the pressure riding in the fifth match, the Lady Panthers dug deep and played their hearts out. This determination won the girls the final match, with the score of 15-13. Thus giving the Lady Panthers another win! For NBC, Lana Gochnour had thirty-six digs and twelve service points. Savannah Devine had twenty-eight digs. Krista Burket had twenty-one set assists and ten service points. Emma Eckenroad had twelve kills and eleven service points. Coach Nicky Robison stated this after the exciting win: “Tonight was a very good confidence builder for this team. I am proud of the way the girls responded in the fourth game after dropping the third. At times we struggled with serve reception and blaming others, but the girls were able to step up and overcome that.” After this exhilarating night, the Lady Panthers are now the only team with an undefeated record in the Sideling Hill League! This is also the first time since 1997, that the Lady Panthers beat the Lady Lions in volleyball!
